First Run

First Run

One of the first experiences with the Jeepster was when I drove all the way to Sharkey’s in Edgartown for a little gathering in honor of the new game, How Green is Your Vineyard.  It was a treat to show up in the car, and then to have a drink or two and some hors d’ouevres with the assembled throng.  Geoff Rose put the game together and I contributed some of the questions. Francine Kelly and daughter Ann showed up for dinner and got to admire my car from the window.  That was cute.
I left Sharkeys and took back roads over to the Edgartown West Tisbury Road where I opened the throttle and let her rip!  I must have hit 35 mph!  It was a great feeling to have the new car on the road, feel the wind in my hair and the sunlight on the top of my head.  There is certainly a sense of openness and freedom with a convertible.
My destination was Dick and Patti Goodells where a pool party was in progress.  I showed up a little late because of the Sharkey’s function, but still had time to savor the water and then show off the Jeepster.  Dick was so impressed he jumped in the front seat, kicked the starter and drove off down the road!  It was a treat to see him go.
He returned in a few minutes, windswept hair and a smile from ear to ear.  I felt I had scored to earn his appreciation of the vehicle.
Dick and Patti and Joyce headed into the kitchen to prepare dinner.  I got Pat and Jay Schofield into the Jeepster, Pat worrying about her hair, Jay fooling with the glove box.  The car drove pretty well, but I kept fiddling with the throttle/choke which added to the hesitation.  Anyway, the goal was to get back to our house to switch cars before darkness made driving the light-less Jeepster a hazard on the highways.
So we switched off at the house, and returned for a delicious repast at Goodells, one of Dick’s special pasta and salad dishes.  Good times with good friends and the Jeepster was part of the party.
